    Balancing Throttle Bodies.

Service time came round all too quickly and detected a very slight uneven idle, I presumed this was probably the TBs' out of balance.
Sure enough when I got the tank off and connected the laptop they were in fact out of balance although the software claimed 'Balanced'.
For those of you that have not taken the plunge and removed the tank, it is quite straight forward if you have owned a Tiger before, no more involved just different plastic parts bolted on in a different way.

I did however think there must be a way of running the engine without having to make up jumper leads for the fuel and electrical supply with the use of  special tools.
There are 2 special tools used, a blanket and a short length of 3 by 2.

IF you are QUICK with fitting the blanks or caps to the balance pipe stubs there is no need to drain the tank, (got used to this on HD tanks), the safest way of course is to drain the tank, remove it, cap the balance stubs and refill small amount of fuel to balance TBs'. To refit is reverse.

    Simplicity in itself.

At the advent of good fuel injection on bikes, TBH far more accurate than gauges.

    How far out were they?

The software just asks the ECU if the throttles are balanced and it replies with a 'balanced' or 'not balanced' code which the software translates into English (or your chosen language). i.e. The software doesn't make the decision whether the throttles are balanced, the ECU does.

The MAP readings are simply requested by the software and come direct from the ECU and are for information (and adjustment) purposes only.

They were out by a factor of 3 on the readings.
Did make a difference although slight.

Are you sure they were out by "a factor of 3" or just a count of 3? I'd be surprised if the engine would run if they were out by that much, i.e. 1/3 or x3.

When I've checked mine they might fluctuate by +/-2 on each cylinder but still within tolerance.

I know this is an old post but anyone picks it up, do you still balance the throttle bodies with a screw driver on the cam lifts down in between each throttle intake. It is the way I used to do it on my old Girlie 955i. If there are any tips would gladly like to know.  :112:
