Motoscotland off-road courses

Did two days off-road training with the incredibly friendly guys at Motoscotland in the spring, when I was a mere Tiger 800 owner. Even if you don't plan to head off into the wild on your Tex the training is great for improving skills on slippery Tarmac roads and challenging slopes and terrain. Fantastic scenery with great training and so different to the way we normally ride our bikes. There are some good places to stay locally if you do the two day course I don't have any connection with them other than being a happy customer.
P.S. It's good to practice dropping someone else's bike!!

I know a few folks who have been there and all were impressed with the training.    Hopefully I will manage along next year some time.

Wise choice. Both times I went to Triumph Trail Quest I used their bikes to save mine and didn't have a single drop on either visit. But that doesn't mean I'd be stupid enough to use my own bike if I go again! The additional cost of using theirs is less than replacing the bits'n'bobs on mine that would usually get damaged by even a minor drop......and I know my bike will be fit to ride home at the end of the day!

I've done motoscotland and agree. Really friendly and helpful. To clarify. The bikes are dropped on purpose to show you how to pick them up safely. A little pricey but worth it.

Ah-ha.......practice picking them up, not practice dropping them! Certainly a useful skill to have and one I've seen demonstrated but fortunately never had to use by myself.......both times I dropped my first Tex there was help at hand 'coz even with the correct technique they're big heavy lumps to lift.

The pick up the bike "training" was on day one, and the pick up the bike for real (because I had exceeded my limited skills) was on day two!
The point I was making is that if you use your own pride and joy there will be some holding back and inhibition in how far you will push yourself and the bike. With the school bikes you are better able to find that limit and learn the new skills without those worries. It was the deep and rutted mud that was my undoing......all good clean? fun!
