I like having my missus on the back on long trips.  We usually travel with another guy on a bike too, which I find comforting when out in the never never.
We have comms (Sena), but can listen to our own music.  On long boring bits, the missus goes to sleep on the back.

Yes, you have to maximise luggage and pack thoughtfully, compared to solo.  And carrying a tent as well is out of the question for me, but the missus doesn't do tenting anyway.

IMHO, you haven't screwed up, you've reduced the number of bikes you have to garage and maintain, by one.

And the occasional fast solo run is then more of a delight.

Best of all, farkles are now steeply discounted. I no longer have to buy her something of equal or greater value for every accessory I purchase.

Obviously the increased drinking has erased painful memories and some major hidden costs....
I stuck in there and after many years solo riding I now ride most tours with Mrs.N and it's good fun.
Stillwobbling:- once you get used to the added weight and luggage issues you'll be glad you went shopping together.

Ken has got it spot on.

The message being, if you keep the Mrs happy, you will be happy. A bit of riding with a pillion(an art in itself) is invariably rewarded with some great solo trips. I did a 2-up tour of Germany & France last year. Very nice too. This year its the French Alps (solo) with the lads. A bit of quid pro quo mate.

So never whinge about the wife and the bike. Choose wisely in the first place and marry accordingly.

Some musings for the missus and her own GS (that's my missus with her GS (700))

Well, with the Missus suited and booted. Head to toe in new gear. Gloves, jacket, helmet, troos - the works.

Thought it was about time she had a ride on the back of the Tex.  We talked about her doing the CBT and maybe getting a bike of her own. She had a sit on a 700 GS which really was a pretty good fit. Anyway, went out in the Peak District and she loved it. She actually said she was very happy on the back and didn't really need her own bike.

Tell me guys. I mean be really honest.

I've screwed up, haven't I.

Actually I sat her on a 700 GS in the local dealer. Seemed to suit her well actually. She's going to do her CBT and see how she feels. Seems to have lost interest in going pillion so I may have dodged a bullet there.

My wife stopped riding with me 20-25 years ago.  I think it was a combination of several factors.  My bikes in that era were sport bikes, pillion comfort was not a high priority, and she and I disagreed on appropriate lean angles.

And as I have matured as a rider, my rides themselves have gotten longer, and I seek out more destinations than just the Smokey Mountains.  (OK, I still some part of the Smokeys once a year.)

A real problem that she had, that kept getting worse, were two awful knees, residuals of youthful sports injuries.  About 10 years ago, she had them both replaced, and as she got stronger and more active, I was hopeful she would be able to resume riding with me.  I bought the TEx, by far the largest bike I have ever owned, and featuring the most erect riding position since the days of the UJMs, to help further that goal.  But for several reasons, including her contracting Guillame-Barre which still plagues her, that didn't work out.

But she has become more and more interested in going with to see some the things I see, etc.  Just be together.  We'll be retired soon, this is a high priority for us.  I'd been pressing her to try a bike herself, and while two wheels were out, she briefly considered a Can-Am Spyder.

Then we found this farkle:  https://photos.tiger-explorer.com/image/iWsF

Buying her new riding gear is cheaper.  Buying her a new bike is PROBABLY cheaper.  I don't know anything about divorce.
