Engine leak.
« on: February 25, 2018, 04:11:34 PM »
Just serviced my 2012 explorer and have discovered a very small seeping leak. It's coming from the small silver triangular cover In The recess next to the sump plug. Can anybody tell he what this cover is for and will I need to drain the engine before I take this cover off. It's got two 10 mm bolts on the ends and a small Allen headed bolt in the centre. Any guidance welcome.  :148:

There are two places lower down where the 1st gens can leak. One is a heat transfer unit in the sump and the other is a plug that sometimes leaks behind the starter motor. I suggest that You do a search as I am sure there are a couple of threads referring to this.
