Do you use loctite on the stone guard?
« on: March 16, 2018, 01:57:44 PM »
I'm about to do my first DIY oil change.  My 2015 TEX XC has just under 4000 miles on it and I bought it August 2016.  It's had two oil changes so far.

I watched the mechanic do the other oil changes and he didn't use loctite on the stone/brush guard underneath the bike, but I'm thinking maybe the purple loctite might be ok?

Don't know why you'd want to take the sump guard off to change the oil. The drain bolt can be reached easily, and the filter is on the side :084:

Try Copperslip. Not lost a faster yet and you can get them easily get them undone the next time you need to remove the fastener.
Older than the internet.

As above should be no need to take off.

Bolts though are only 6Nm on the guard itself, I put mine on “just to be safe”using blue loctite which is more than adequate

I take my guard off to change oil. It only takes about about 30 seconds with my little 12 volt Bosch and it saves getting oil all over the top side of the guard. I've never used loktite on the bolts & have never had one work loose...

I don't buy Loctite nor Copper Slip.
I simply rob some nail polish from Mrs NiK and it does the trick.

Just a question, how often do you change your oil? you've had the bike for a year and a half and already on the third oil change on 4000 miles?
Something does not add up or Iam missing....

Patrick

First oil change at 500 miles.  The dealer did it.

Annually thereafter.

Just out of interest, what is the preferred method of removing the ally sump guard? I removed mine once by removing the bolts that screw into the engine itself, but decided not to again, as I was concerned about mis threading any bolts.
