after a few  oil changes....I now always remove the sump guard and use a dab of blue locktite.

  If you do not remove the pan, the oil will cling to the drain hole near the end of draining and travel on the pan.  Not the end of the world, but it is just an unnecessary clean up.

I use Loctite Blue. I don't want to over torque the skid plate since it is removed on a regular schedule.
