Dunlop TrailSmart tires say 41psi cold on the sidewall, but

Manual says 32 and 39.   So what’s the advice and what do you guys go with when deciding air pressure?

I go with the manual. I did check with Triumph for my Gen-2 as the diagrams in the handbook suggest 36/42 whereas the text says 32/39.

Triumph confirmed back that 36/42 is correct for Gen-1's but not for Gen-2's - basically they "forgot" to update the diagrams in the handbook.

Whilst it may say 41 cold on the sidewall, I'd stick with 32/39 personally to start with, but maybe try it with 41 and see how you find it, it may be for that tyre that you need to up the pressure a little. Ride with what you find works best for you.

I’m running a set of Shinko 705s and they say 41 psi on the side.  I contacted Shinko and they said to run it at that psi for my bike.

Triumph only has the psi rated for the original tires. If you run something else you should contact them for the correct psi for your motorcycle.

It's a tyres topic - pretty obvious where it goes !  :002:

On the Triumph website they have a tire information PDF which lists the pressures for a few tires for each model.   It is not all inclusive by any means but they keep the same pressure across the different tires.  I would try what the manual says and then go from there.  I find that I get best results if I set the pressure at 34/39.  The rating on the side of the tire is for safety so the tire doesn't get over loaded or over inflated.

There's virtually no difference between 39 and 41. The pressure will change more than that during the course of a ride due to the tyre warming and cooling. In fact I've seen my rear go from 48psi on the autostrada at 35C to 36psi at the top of the Stelvio pass at 7C on the same day!

For anyone remembering school physics and the "ideal gas law" - yes, it changes more than that would suggest, but that's because the water vapour in the air is not an ideal gas. This is why racers use a nitrogen fill - no water vapour.

I had been using TrailSmarts on my Gen 1 for at least three years. During that time I ran them at 36/38 solo and upped the rear to 41 two up. They are imho excellent tyres and suit the Gen 1 bikes very well with their quick steering and good all round grip.
