I was in a gas station recently that had signs posted stating that motorcyclists must dismount to fuel their bikes. Probably, due to fire hazard and the inability to escape it.

Yeap - I heard (also seen a video) of cruiser riders spilling gas on their red-hot pipes and then exploding in the ensuring combustion reaction.

I haven't seen any of those posts - luckily as I am a stubborn f#$#$k who likes doing things his way and more than once argued with poor service people on my insistence of acting like a jack-ass. Usually they leave me alone.

Also, apparently you don't need a key to open the gas tank with some  :155: bikes and there's been stories of people leaving their bikes running whilst trying to fill-er up. I think those signs also help those folks. "Get off your damn bike and turn it off you dum#$@# and then fill the tank!"

Though if you don't pay attention and spill gas everywhere on a hot engine, this is bound to happen sooner or later. It's like smoking whilst filling it up...

Seems to be a common problem though ...

Fuel level sensor is nowhere near that area, and besides, there's a plate which would stop the nozzle going much further anyway.
