@ Capt T yes, effectively. Manufacturers seek to save every penny and nowhere more so than in the wiring loom. If you have 55w lights then the cabling is there to support 55w lights. OK there's a bit of latitude, but when people go and fit rally style 100 or even 130w lights, they're often disappointed and even more so when the loom melts.

If anyone has fitted something like these then the proof is to take a flying lead, connect one end directly to the battery and with the lights on, touch the additional live supply to the lamp connector and see the lamp's brightness increase. I run an add-in harness that plugs in the lamp holder to get a signal from the original loom, but it fires a relay and a fused supply directly from the battery. It's a neat little add on I picked up in the States originally. Much thicker gauge wire - makes a real difference and the back of the bulb holders don't get hot.

Anyhoo - back to bikes!
