A quick question on the 10K service.

Mine is going in for service in the next week or two.

The 10K service calls for a spark plug inspection, per the owners manual.

Is this really necessary?  It seems like a lot of work ($$ that is) to check the plugs.  I mean, if your going to pull them, anyway, why not just replace them?

I can't remember if the air filter needs to be inspected as well, but if it is not on the list, I think I may save an hour or more of labor charges and let the plug check go to the 20K service when the valves get checked anyway.

On the other hand, I don't want to screw something up or void my warranty.

Thoughts?

Edit:  It looks like (according to the service chart I downloaded) the air filter needs to be replaced at 10K, so the tank has to come off in any case.  Answered my own question.

They are also supposed to check and balance of the throttle bodies while they are under there.

Yes, I see that too.

I think I had some questions because I called the dealer to schedule the ANNUAL service, then realized I was only 700 miles from the the 10K service, so I cancelled my appointment for the annual.

Looks like a different price structure for the 10K service- there are a number of things that don't need to be done at one year that do need attention at 10K.

I don't think I'll get out of there for $300.

I called around.  I'm lucky enough to have 4 dealers within a 100 miles.  $480 - $700 were the quotes.  About 3 hours of work.  I live in a pricey area and I was being charged an extra few bits for having aftermarket upper crash bars, which have to come off and back on during the service.
