Hey from Droopydawg (monrovia, ca)
« on: January 09, 2019, 02:00:51 AM »
Hello everyone.
Used to be on the Tiger 1050 board years ago.  Had a 07 1050 until I sold it 5 years ago. Really enjoyed it, except for having to replace the stator twice in 30k miles, and getting stranded in middle Tennessee. That odd experience kinda turned me off to the Tiger experience. The dealers could not figure out what the cause was, only one other person on the 1050 board had a similar issue. The stator had signs of overheating.
It has been awhile and I am considering getting back on the big cat.
Love to hear opinions on buying one again, the good, the bad, the ugly. What should I look for? Is there a large fuel tank option?
Ill be reading your posts.
Convince me why I should not get a R1200GSA.

Thank you
-Drew

Let me help: You should totally, absolutely get a GS1200. We'll see you around on the road.

Thanks Icy and Bruce. Really like a 2014 XC that I have seen. Low miles and priced right. Reading the specs, it should fit me exactly how my old 1050 did.
My budget is 10K, and the GS1200s I have seen in that price range, as well as GS1100s and GS1150s might as well have 100k miles on them since they are so high already.
Ive compared them both and the BMW is a little better in some areas, and the Triumph is a little better in others. I am not a hard core ADV rider, but I do want dip a front tire into Prudhoe Bay eventually.
Bruce, thanks for reminding me of that philosophy. Get what I like. I have said the same thing to others for years.

What is lacking in the 2014 XC? How are the Triumph side panniers and riding lights? I think there are better options from Twisted Throttle.

Yes there are - and there are a tons of useful posts on this forum regarding them, people did reviews, shared their thoughts, pages of discussions... You should do some search and some research and read those...

I had a 2013 TEX, bought at 0 miles, traded in at 41K miles after riding it for two years
Got a 2014 XC, bought at 0 miles, traded in at 20K miles after riding it for two years
Got a 2018 XCx three months ago - because I am a sucker for technology and the new bike has so many lights and buttons and whatnot...

What goes well from TT on the TEX (I used to hang out there all the time back in the day)

LED mod from Cyclops for the headlights - I definitely recommend this

At the bottom of that post you will also see my D4 installation, illumination tests etc.

As per the panniers - go for them. Triump panniers are awesome (so are the Givi Trekker Outbacks, which is pretty much the same thing)

Good luck
