engine noise changes when clutch is pulled in
« on: March 10, 2019, 07:45:40 PM »
Hi,

I've got a 2015 Explorer and have  noticed the engine note changes when I pull the clutch lever in, it sounds a little rough with the clutch out, it is only a slight noise and it maybe new bike paranoia as I've only had it 4 days and am still getting used to what sounds are normal.

Thanks

I think the clutch’s do rattle a little getting quieter when you pull the lever in. Mine does, it’s done about 23000 miles. I have had it apart in the past and looks like new. My bike is a 2012 first generation.

Are you talking about sitting idling in neutral? If so, it is normal to have some lash in the gears when there is no load on them.

^^^  Yes.

I think most bikes make a little more noise idling with the clutch out and transmission in neutral, than with the held in.    My Explorer is not as bad as some I have had or heard.

Hi - mine does exactly the same - nothing to worry about. And a hell of a lot less noise than my Ducati !!  :001:

It's not only bikes.
Most modern clutch systems behave this way. It's just that on most cars you can't hear it.

Thanks for the feed back.

takes a few days to settle in to a new bike.
I'm waiting for a dry weekend to take it for a good run.
