Spring in California "Bugs"
« on: March 13, 2019, 05:07:23 PM »
It must be spring here in somewhat sunny california. Went for a 200 mile on sunday and on getting home, i found a number of large yellow globs of bug guts all over the the front of the bike. They managed to get into areas that will require taking off a lot of the plastic, just to get the stuff out. How in the hell did the bugs get that far in before being spattered, they had to turn several corners before turning into goo. Love the weather, but man do the bugs come out.  :138:

Those are the Painted Lady butterflies migrating north.  There are an unprecedented number of them flying this year because of our abundant rainfall.  Apparently the yellow splat is from their fat storage as a caterpillar the enables them to fly up to 125 miles without stopping.  How's that for fuel efficiency? They'll be gone in another week or so.  TMI possibly, but I was reading up on them in the LA Times the other day and found it interesting. Might not go for a ride this weekend to avoid the mess, but the weather is going to be about perfect!

Riddle:
- How do you recognize a happy biker?
- To the bugs splattered on his teeth!
