Shiney pipes and stuff!
« on: April 02, 2019, 05:57:52 PM »
So I took my tiger back for some warranty work yesterday I decided whilst they had my bike to have a mini valet i.e. get them to get ride of all the crap in those hard to get places which has built  over the winter.
My Tiger came back as she had just rolled off the production line !!
Now here's the thing -when I spoke to the valater I asked him what he used on the exhaust pipes etc - he just said a metal cleaning paste that comes in a tube a bit like toothpaste tube  or you can get in a bigger tin which costs around £20.

does anyone have any ideas what this may be because I need some in my life !!

Many thanks

SBT

Agreed, probably Autosol.

I prefer Bar Keepers Friend power cream. More a household product but I find it works better and easy to get.

I prefer my bike looking like it's an adventure vehicle, not a showroom trinket (plus, I'm lazy ;-)

Solvol Autosol, been using it since the 70's, basically a fine paste chrome polish, any car accessory shop will sell it.

Word of warning, don't use acid based cleaners they'll bring the pipes up clean, but rot the paint on everything else.

Second word of warning, polishing exhaust pipes is the road to ruin, like any thing else the more you clean them, the more you'll have to, I'd rather spend my time out riding  :008:
I'll never be old enough to know better !

There is also a kitchen cleaner called Pink. But remember, if you clean it too much you won’t want to take it out in the wet

Thanks guys !
I use my Tiger everyday - I dont own a car - I hear what your saying about being too shiny, too clean, but 5 days travelling over Saddleworth moor in all weathers my Tiger does look like its been on a off road tour ! but during better weather i do like the look of clean shiny pipes ! !
