Comfort seat and heated seat question from a Newby
« on: April 03, 2019, 05:44:22 PM »
Hi Folks,

I'm picking up my new 1200 on Saturday, I'm lucky enough to have been able to get an XRT with the heated seat. Can anyone tell me, is the heated seat a Comfort seat as on the XRX or is it of a different stuffing because of the heating element?

It's the new mesh design seat so no less comfortable as that on the XRx. I have it on my XCa and it is superbly comfortable (but not very heated).

When brand new, the gen 3 heated seats are definitely firmer than the standard seat. But you'll only really notice if you are doing long stints of say 3+ hours in one sitting. The good news is that the heated seats break in quite quickly. By 500-1000 miles or so, you should find your seat softens up quite a bit and becomes all-day comfortable. The ergonomics are also excellent for standing up from time to time to ease any aches and pains while you're breaking in the seat.

Thanks Folks! I appreciate the replies - especially that the seat will ease with time, I don't have a lot of meat on the bum so need all the padding I can get! The Kawasaki SX I had had a horrible seat that I ended up having re-stuffed and covered - looked very good and made it useable. I was wondering if I might need to do that again as on the test ride I got a little fidgety after 45 minutes.

Can I ask a further question on this thread - what's the best after market tinted screen? Does anyone make a black or dark grey in the touring height screen?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

The standard touring screen is very good, would you consider just putting window tint on that and saving a few bob? Having said that all black would restrict your immediate view no?

The standard touring screen is great for size and shape - I just thought it might look a bit better with a dark tint on it. Perhaps I could wallpaper it?

I have an XRT.  I had the screen vinyl wrapped at a local car place.  He used a gloss black off-cut and charged me a tenner. It has stood up fine to the last couple of winters and 20K.  You can't see through it but that doesn't matter to me - I am 6 foot 3.

Any chance of seeing a picture? That sounds really good value and could add some different options.
