It is a good time to be touring here in SA. It is not as hot a summer but the rains haven't hit too much yet. During winter down here in the Western Cape, it rains constantly for a week at a time. The weather looks good for quite a while though. Some really nice roads to ride around Cape Town.
Well, I'm back from our trip. Had a terrific time. Covered 6250 kms in temperatures ranging from 1C to 33C. Lots of secondary highway riding at speeds up to 140 kph, lots of pothole dodging, lots of animal dodging, a couple of hundred kms of dirt desert roads, some challenging safari tracks, a little sand here and there and one challenging (for me, anyway) dirt mountain pass (Swartberg). Dropped my bike twice, as I am a novice dirt rider. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. GS comparison report to follow after I compose my thoughts.
