explorer 2015 abnormal engine noise
« on: September 19, 2019, 12:04:00 AM »
Hi,

Need some help please! Bought a 2015 XC with 19000mls on the clock from CMC Manchester a week ago. They were advertising it as a trade deal as they already had many of these bikes on stock so after a few questions over the phone i was assured that engine was running fine and going throw the gears.
Left deposit, paid for it and the bike was picked up and delivered to me in Portugal this week. Upon the first start i heard a cracking noise from somewhere in the middle of the engine which was not normal . it's my 3rd explorer.
Eventually after riding it 200mls the engine noise was louder as something was breaking inside it and specially at low speeds and when going from 1st gear.
Needless to say that CMC said the engine was fine and sounding healthy but I'll deal with them later,

Any thoughts on what it could be? Checked already for recalls and nothing comes up.

Thanks,

Hard to say from your description. 2015 models should not be within the range of the soft valve guide/head replacement issue. Still, check your VIN number. More info here:

I would get that bike back to the seller straight away. They should at least offer a 90 day used warranty. Tell them it is not fit for purpose and get rid of it.  :155:

If you had the noise on first start then why ride it 200 miles ? If you need to raise the issue with the dealer then then surely you need to do it as soon as possible.

I would say they are selling it "trade" as they knew it was a bag of nails! If you agreed to "trade" terms you may find you have little or no comeback.

If they advertise it as "running fine " then they need to honour thsat commitment. Hope you get it sorted.

Wrote to triumph UK, wrote to CMC and will have it look at by a mechanic. Will keep it updated.

Did you take it to triumph? Was there where they diagnosed the problem? I don’t trust triumph here...
How much did it cost you and why they didn’t take the whole bill? Thanks for your help. Filipe
