Water in the fuel
« on: January 13, 2020, 08:22:32 PM »
All ready for a run a few days ago, bike started OK, the idle was rough, but stalled as soon as I opened the throttle.

Took the fuel pump out today to find this.

Somewhat upset, especially after finding out that the filter can't be cleaned or replaced.  Whoever thought that was a good idea needs a  :192:

Heading away for work for 3 weeks, so I'll have a go at getting into the filter when I get back, and post what I find.

I am also a member of the 1050 forum and one of the guys did a strip down of the pump and filter on there if its the same   Note the specific way the cable loops around top and a new zip tie if not already done

Is that staining in the bottom of the tank (not the obvious pitting) or just the way the picture has come out?

Jockmaha, thanks for that, I know what I have to do now.  Looks like I need a run up to Inverness to buy you a pint.   :821:

Hax, just a bit of staining, it does look worse in the photos.  From classic bike forums, ther eis a liquid sealant for old tanks that'll coat the inside, so that's the route I'll go down.

I'll post pictures etc. when I get round to this just to share the knowledge.

Where the supermarket fuel station is operated by a mainstream petroleum company I will use it, but I always avoid unbranded fuel at s/markets = I like to know what I'm getting!
