The new Speed Triple 1160 has a 120 degree crank that was my point.

Sorry, but no. It has 0, 90 and 180 degrees  :012:

I think that you are right. Found this on Bennett's review of the new Street Triple:

Stuart Wood said the T-plane crank as seen in the Tiger 900 was considered for the new Speed Triple but that version comes into its own in low-mid rev range (ideal for Tiger 900) but the new Speed Triple is going to be revved, so it’s right for a 120-degree crank instead.

So, I guess the jury is still out on the new T12. We'll see. But given what Wood said about low-mid range torque, I would bet money on T-Plane.

The Speed Triple 1160 has a 120 degree crank read the specs and listen to one they sound like a Triumph Triple with a 120 crank.

I have a 2014 and looking to trade up. Was thinking ktm but this new one has my attention. Looks like a functional skid plate and much better suspension. Engine from the speed triple (170 hp) but probably detuned a bit. I like the rear shaft but the single side one currently holds a lot of stress on parts and has a huge mass to compensate.  If the price point is lower than bmw it going to be a contender. HD hit it out of the park with their new offering. I’ve ridden it and it is absolutely awesome.  The 900 rally is quite the bike and for tall riders like me I don’t want to be crumpled up when riding. Me personally I’m looking forward to seeing the thing in person.

I took my bike to my local dealer on Saturday for its service and the service manager all but confirmed that the next Tiger 1200 will be 20-30kg lighter than the current bike, with models that match the 900, so GT, Rally, etc., with a likelihood of a large fuel tank option on the Rally models to rival the BMW GS Adventure. He also mentioned adaptive cruise control, which is also on the current KTM 1290 and Ducati Multistrada, along with the usual toys that we already have.

For me personally, it will be the weight loss which will probably be most important, as not being the tallest, the weight that the current bike carries high up coupled with a full set of luggage can make the bike heavy for me when stopped or having to manhandle it around. I will also be looking at the seat height of the new bike, the Rally with a 21in front wheel won't interest me as it may be taller and I don't need the off-road capability anyway so I would be looking at the GT models to see how suitable it would be for me.

You know all things considered, the down side of all of this, is the fact that most of the accessories I have probably will not fit the new model. So there goes a couple more grand on top of what the bike will cost, wonderful, the boss will love that. :745:

If we can get the guys who chose the paint job on the new Speed Triple RR rather than the ones who did the Tiger 900 we will be sorted for a good paint job on the Gen 4. Does anyone else think the 900 paint jobs are woeful, bar maybe the Matt Khaki Green.
