The other bike - the Trophy evolves...
on: July 23, 2020, 02:49:48 PM
Much as I love my Tiger, I had a Trophy itch which needed scratching and I now have the best of both worlds in the garage  :001:

However, never being one to know when to stop tinkering, I couldn’t leave well alone...

The first parts of the bodywork should be back from the paint shop on Saturday, or Monday and then I can start to put it back together again  :001:

Can't wait to see some pictures of her when she's back together again, mind you I thought she looked pretty damn fine in the before shots! :002:

Thanks JM!

She looked very nice from a distance when I got her, but there were so many minor bits that needed tidying that I thought, hang it, let’s get it all done at once  :001:

For instance, the wheels come from the factory in a matt grey, which must look great when it’s in the showroom, but it just doesn’t clean up - hence powder coating in Candy Gold. It now has the air horn from hell buried deep in the bike and an Explorer/Givi alloy back rack nestling discretely on the back end (the choices for the Trophy are virtually non existent).

The bodywork is going to be one colour - 3 layers of very coarse flake silver, followed by 7 layers of translucent ruby. And there’ll be a proper Triumph logo on the tank (“BMW” indeed!).

Fingers crossed for when I collect the first panels...

The blue was very nice, but it blended in and I’d already been asked “is it a BMW” twice, which is clearly twice too often  :008:

If the paints as good as your Explorer that could become the Trophiest Trophy I've ever seen. Perhaps if T had been less conservative with their uninspiring BMW-esque colour options they would have sold more?

Those wheels look the business. Down pipes in great shape too.

Look forward to the finished article 😎👍🏻

Thanks Will  :028: Funnily enough, the chap who ran the paint shop at Hinckley came out to look at the Tiger when I was up there once and he was saying that they’d love to have some fun and games with paint, but it was all done to how little time they had per bike. I agree, it could have made it really stand out.

Thanks Jarse.

Got to do it to the Explorer too over the winter too. Would you believe it was done with coarse wet and dry (!), working through finer grades and finishing with Solvol Autosol and mutton cloth.

Here’s the starting point - you’ll need to zoom in:

I thought something was familiar about seeing your IronMan Explorer with a Trophy. From Oct 2013...
