I thought they'd scrapped the Tiger 900 entry level machine (at least for the UK) but I agree, it does seem like a strange marketing decision in this spec . Anyone know if it retains the t-plane crank from the Tiger 900? I like the paint job on this more than the 900 though.

Triumph have stated it does replace the entry level 900, so that answers that question then.

The T plane crank turns me off a little.  I know it is "better" but I love that smooth triple sound.  What I really want to see is a 1160 sport with a crap ton of horsepower IE I want a less cramped speed triple.

I quite agree, what I think they’ve given us is a less cramped and detuned STREET triple though.

Even as a nominal 850, I like it but I’d have warmed to it much more if it had the 120 degree crank, the t-plane is a solution to a problem I didn’t have! :087:

Well,  the only thing going for it is it weighs less the 200 kilos. Seriously lacking in HP though I know someone who rides a Honda CB500 and people struggle to keep up with him unless the road is straight.

Looks to me just like a "re-badged" entry level 900 (same suspension etc) as I guess the feedback albeit limited by world situation probably showed they were not going to sell many.
Shame all of them are lacking in power/torque department as I'd be interested to come down from Gen2 for the weight, but would want 100gg's

I have seen some rumors saying that this will replace the entry level 900.

Anyone follow The Motorcycle Obsession? I find his writing style entertaining most of the time. Sometimes he's too American for me though   :745:

He is or was the owner of an Explorer, 2nd gen and writes well about the qualities, and failings, of the big Tex... He's recently written about the new triumph Tiger 850 sport, I think for me, he's hit the nail on the head.
