Dunlop Trailmax Mission Tires
on: February 14, 2021, 11:13:54 PM
I recently installed a pair of Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires on my 2015 Explorer and wanted to give some feedback.

The I install and balance my own tires and that way I do checks on the brakes and bearings. The tires went on fine but the rear is a bit stiff and took a pinch more effort but nothing exceptional. I noticed that these tires had yellow marking the light spot on the tires. I matched these spots to the valve stems (I have TPMS) and they balanced just fine.

I put the recommended air pressures in the tires 36 psi front and 42 psi rear. The change of tires required a test ride and everything worked as advertised. They did not seem to have the slickness of some new tires due to the release agent on them.

The tires did heat up while riding with 39 psi in the front and 47 psi in the rear.

I did manage to ride some clay roads here in north Florida and South Georgia, USA and I can say the performed very well. They did not sing while ride on pavement any more that most other tires.

I do not have a thousand miles on them yet so right now they seem to work just fine. I'll report back later when the mileage starts to get up closer to 2k.

Thanks for the report. I'm thinking of using those.

You might like to talk to your tyre supplier about "release agent".
Or do a search on the net like I did, eg:  https://motorbikewriter.com/break-new-set-motorcycle-tyres/
There is no such animal used these days, as confirmed by my tyre fitter.
(It pays to bust myths as soon as you see them, lest they be passed on like a lot of "fake news" is these days.)

Thanks for the fitting report Flaldrider. The tires look very good on paper - it will be interesting to hear how you find them in use  :467:

I forgot to list the tread depth of the tires when new.

Front tread depth is 6mm or 8/32

Rear tread depth is 9mm or 12/32

I am on my third set of the Trailmax. I have been through multiple sets of tires on my Tiger (Micheline (Anakee III and Adventure), Bridgestone, Dunlop (Trailsmart), Avon), all lasting no more than 3k miles. The Trailmax lasts a minimum of 6.5k miles and handles as well or better than any other tire I've had on my bike. I do a lot of offroad as well and they do great in the dirt, too... the best tire IMHO.

Just a little heads up - I looked into these but Dunlop are not releasing them in Europe.

Apparently they’re not suitable for our winter roads.

Read a review of someone how had them shipped over but they were almost i rideable on UK winter roads and he removed them after only a few hundred miles.

Interesting though as USA riders are raving about them!

They are slippery when new. Once they're scrubbed they hold well. I have ridden with them on wet roads with no issues, at least here in the U.S.

Interesting you mentioned that Andy. I live in Washington state (USA) which is not much different than most of the UK. I like the tires and seem to do as advertised.

I was only going on what I read here (https://advrider.com/f/threads/dunlop-trailmax-mission-adv-tires.1411149/page-9),scroll down to past the very nice looking pictures and size chart for comments from Chissy K - they've made several updates - admittedly that 12 month ago now, I haven't delved any deeper into that thread.

Shame though as they look perfect for what I wanted but won't be risking it now.
