LED fog lights
on: March 29, 2021, 08:55:24 AM
Good day all

can someone please give me some advice , i recently purchased some aftermarket LED fog lights for my Tiger 1200 2019 .I fitted them they work fantastically till they heat up and then the system switches them off and I get a error code on my screen. I was told by the agents that 12 w LED are too strong I need 6 or Max 7 watts for the system. Can anyone advise please.

Welcome from Ireland.  :821:

The T1200 has a CANBUS system and you are probably drawing more current on that circuit than the CANBUS system is expecting and it is shutting it down. If you are adding your own electronics/lights or anything else do it via a power distribution module (PDM) or a simple single relay off the battery. You must keep any non Triumph electronics off the CANBUS system. There is a spare electrical socket in the tail you can use to trigger a relay or PDM with ignition.

As usual, our distinguished Irish member is perfectly right.

FWIW, I had several TRIUMPH foglights acting erratically (i.e. cutting off after an unpredictable while), be them halogens or LEDs. After the dealer couldn't solve it (even with help from mothership), I started to suspect the whole eletronic system is way too complex for Triumph to really understand what they do.

The OEM lights are 10w each so this is what the system expects. I went for a basic set of 10w lights using the OEM wiring that was already on the bike. ( Switch and loom were already fitted. ) Just fitted the correct connectors and plugged in, under the beak.

These are the connectors to plug into the OEM loom.

I have used the BikeVis Cree v3 on my previous bike, can't fault them. they are 10w each and a reasobanle price. These are lights only and power and switch supply are up to yourself.  They do a crash bar mount too.
