If you're wondering how one can pick a disk lock in 5 secs, just know that I did it once (lost keys ;-) using a variant of this technique:

(circular barrel locks can be incredibly ill-designed)

People are dicks.  That's the first thing you have to remember.

Locks and alarms may deter/delay theft, but they won't stop or deter vandals.

The world is full of dicks who will just knock your bike off the center stand on a lark.  Happened to my Sprint 1050 in a well-lit hotel parking lot.

When I'm on the road and park for the night, I use the steering lock and nothing else.  At home, it's in the garage.  If somebody wants it, they will find a way to take it.  Best thing you can do is keep your insurance up to date.  An never wash it- bright and shiny is a better target than filthy and dirty.

Some places are kind enough to let you park under the awning in view of the hotel office, which is nice.  The lady at one place I stayed told me she was giving me an older room, but "it's on the first floor and has a sliding door and you can roll your motorcycle into your room if you like."  And I did.
So many roads, so little time.
