Hi all,

Been a long time since I've last been on a motorcycle forum  :033: but since I purchased a new 2013 Explorer in black (picture below) I figured it'd be good to have a look around and figure out some decent info about the bike. :028:

I've come from a KTM 950 Adventure which I've toured all over Europe on (Switzerland being a fantastic trip) but I've slowly come to terms with the fact that I'm just not using it for what it's intended for - off roading. It's a bike that is far more capable than my riding ability and I've only ever ridden it off road a few times over the years. It'll be going up for sale soon but safe to say its had a massive amount of work done to it, with the prior owner having taken it to Morocco three times  :062:

Hence the need for something newer, more comfy and with a lot more touring toys fitted as standard. The seat on the KTM was like sitting on a pile of bricks and the TEx is just so much comfier. It seems the TEx I've picked up has all the toys bar TMPS (which I'm not fussed about having anyhow) and ready to go touring. Just needs a set of tyres, the screen sorting as the buffeting for my 6ft2 height is awful (had the same issue on the KTM) and a brake rebuild before I go to the pyrenees later this year.

Anyhow, hoping that I can find some good advice on this forum - to begin with about the screen, to see what will be a good fit. I've taken a punt and added an old spoiler I originally bought for the KTM and added it to the TEx, in the hope that'll fix the problem. If not I might resort to the same as I did with the KTM - short screen and deal with increased wind pressure but clean air over dirty turbulent air and feeling like my head is on a fast spin cycle.

Thanks very much - the KTM has huge sentimental value given the trips I've done, work I've done to it but I just need to move onto something newer.  :159:

Welcome to the forum.

When I had a gen1 Tiger (your bike), I found a tall Madstad screen much better than the stock screen.  Dunno if they are still available, but even a second-hand one would be good (mine was).
I subsequently bought the small Madstad deflectors which reduced air turbulence from below a bit.

My gen3 electric screen is better than the gen1 stock screen, but not as good as the Madstad was.
