Thinking about all those bikes mentioned and the best/worst parts of each made me think what an ideal bike would be. It would likely be a 1200 Tiger Sport, a big brother to the 660 Tiger Sport and overdue replacement for the 1050. Triumph could put the Speed Triple motor, slightly detuned, in it and the toys we've come to expect on our bikes now. I think a 160 HP Tiger Sport that is purely road biased would be a great addition to the range. BMW have the mental S1000XR that complements the GS and doesn't take sales away from it as it is going out to a different market of tall sports tourers, so why wouldn't Triumph build that bike? I'd most likely buy one if they did...

:0461: A 1200 Tiger Sport is the bike I've been hoping for! I hope Triumph see the resurgence in sports tourers as people lose interest in touring on adventure bikes, but sadly there have been no rumours of anything like that yet.

I think they would be very wary of releasing another bike like that, the 1050 didn't sell that well at all. Triumph are about premium pricing and a new 1200 Sport Tourer could well be too overpriced for the market? The new 1200RR is a million $$$ in looks, I love it but the market for those bikes is very small and even smaller for a Triumph branded one.

I think you might be surprised with the size of the market for that type of bike. I see plenty of S1000XR's, Ducati Multistradas, etc. around, which would be the likely direct competitors. The 1050 Tiger was a much lower budget bike in terms of tech, so wasn't that competitive in the market.

Those tall sports tourers now go out to a market where bikers are getting older and are leaving sports bikes due to the aches and pains from the riding position but they still want a bike with plenty of go, just with a more comfortable riding position. Triumph could definitely make a competitive bike for that market.

Well if there is one thing about Triumph they are not afraid to take a punt and make multiple bikes with one base system, failure breeds success so you never know. I would be sure Triumph have done their market research and have all sorts of ideas in their minds. If they just put regular bars and lower the pegs on the 1200RR rather than the clips-ons they would triple their sales. I converted my old Daytona to regular bars and now this old man can ride it for at least a day! Still a challenge for the old hips though  :005:

Very true! I'm wish bike manufacturers would realize many of us affluent enough to afford their premium bikes at premium prices are no longer lithe & agile enough to contort ourselves in to idealistic riding positions yet we do not want to ride Gold Wings, K1600s, HDs etc.

For me at least putting a softened Speed Triple power unit in a Tiger 900 would work a treat.

PS Tried a Kwak 1000SX yesterday as well, great bike but 3/4 hr later I was in pain............................at least Kawasaki ask you to fill in a feed back form which the others don't.  So I think they got the flavour of this thread from me

Couldn't have put it better myself - The spirit is willing but the body is no longer able  :003: :008:

Agree with Chippy - a Speed triplesk engine in a road focused tourer (with adventure looks/options) with all the bells & whistles would be an absolute blast....  :152:

    Bring back the Sprint ST/GT.

Speed Triple motor.  And please, please, please, PLEASE don't "retune the motor for more midrange power."

I absolutely hate it when manufactures take a stellar sport engine and then "fix" it for sport-touring.  You lose what made the engine great in the first place, and I sincerely doubt the S3 motor lacks midrange power in its current form.

I like the new Suzuki GSX-GT but wonder what it would be like if they had simply used the motor in its original form.
So many roads, so little time.
