    Pillion uncomfortable Gt pro!

    Hi,
I've just taken a gt pro out for a test ride, did approx 60 miles. I liked everything about it apart from the vibes ( I could put up with them as they weren't too bad) but my missus was in pain from the grab rails digging into her legs and there isn't as much room on the pillion as on my present 2019 tiger 1200.
I would say she's average size (5'4") and isn't one for complaining (unusual I know 😯and no, leaving her at home isn't an option 🙄)
Any suggestions? Surely someone else has found this.

The wife came out on my explorer for 3 hours on Sunday and had no issues at all and she is 5'9

What was wrong with the grab rails?

    Hi Kenny,
The grab rails stick into her legs, maybe it doesn't happen with your wife because she's a lot taller.
I'm wondering if it's because she's holding on with her legs when I'm braking and accelerating hard down the back roads🤔

Hold on to your trusted 2019 Tiger 1200 and wait another year until all the niggles with the Gen 4 are fixed.

    Hi,

In addition to this my wife found the expedition panniers were in contact with her legs and the location of the pillion foot peg could be improved.

Same problem we had with my 2020 Gen 3 XRT until I changed the pannier rails for the Givi ones. She is only 5ft tall!

Triumph need to think about the pillion space and comfort on bikes they are bigging up as two up touring capability. They lost a sale of a Gen 4 Tiger GT Pro over this.

I really like the way the bike rides so I thought about getting
some standard grab rails from a breakers and cutting the actual grab rails off then replace the with some tubing lower down and tight to the subframe🤔 but there still doesn't appear to be enough pillion space to get the passenger far enough away from the rider for comfort as the seats too short. Seems like a bad design to me as I have had no problems at all with my last 2 Tigers.

Grab rails not a problem but we didn't like the exp panniers for that reason. Went for motech soft bags for better fit with passenger.

I spoke to Triumph guys at NEC couple of years ago about pillion space/comfort and the pannier rails - their response was 90% of their customers do not carry pillion so they cater for the majority - not particularly helpful

Only brought the Mrs’ out on one ride so far on my new Rally Pro. But it was about a 60 mile trip. No panniers for this ride, just top box. She said that the seat space was good. She had no complaints about the grabs either, though she did mention the ride seemed a bit bumpy. I had it in road mode but should have dialed up the comfort damping.

Honestly the pillion position is fairly precarious any way you slice it. It raises the center of gravity to the point that I’d never even “fire road” with her on the back. Looking to getting a dedicated tourer for when the Mrs’ wants to join me.
