    Sidestand for 40mm lowered XRt

    Hi gang.  Looking for opinions.
To help my wife with getting on and off the bike and giving me more stability, I'm considering the Lust 40mm lowering kit.  Around AU$256 with freight.
I tried a 45mm piece of wood under the sidestand.  No way is a 40mm lowered bike going to be able to use the current sidestand.
-I know the centrestand will be unusable without a ramp, but I never use the centrestand.  The only people who do, are my tyre man and my serviceman.  Their problem!
I'd like to be able to reverse the process, so I want to keep the current sidestand intact.  Because it is aluminium, cutting and welding (then restoring) are beyond me.
A replacement short sidestand is around the same price as the lowering kit!  -With no guarantee one bought online will actually fit.
I don't know where I'd buy a Triumph low sidestand, but no doubt it would cost a fortune.  (But still less than a new bike, eg a Tiger 900.)

What do those of you who have lowered by 40mm do?  Did you butcher your OEM sidestand?

I've taken a punt and ordered Lust 40mm links and a low sidestand from WOT.
Will report back as to how I go, but not expecting deliveries for a while.

The low sidestand from WOT arrived Sun 11th.  Great service from them and DHL.
    Royal Mail not so good.
On the 9th, an email to say the links have left the UK.
On the 13th, an email saying "We have received your parcel from Lust Racing Ltd and it is now being processed to leave the UK.".
Maybe I'll get them before the end of the year.
(Admittedly I paid a lot more for freight to WOT.)

Today I fitted the 40mm lowering links.  Lowered the forks by 15mm.
Thought it would take an hour or so.  Took more like four hours.  Didn't help that I found a couple of escaped bearing needles after I'd tightened up the link bolts.
Haven't tried the bike yet.  Club ride tomorrow will be the check ride.

I don't know that I need to fit the lower sidestand.  Bike does stand up straighter, but still enough lean, I think.
A bit of experience with it will tell.

While I had the exhaust off, I gave it a clean.  Amazing what I could get off with just water, a brush, and a scourer.  No detergent even.

Forgot to add that it took me ages to get the replacement TSAS rod attached.  Bolt just didn't want to screw into the bottom alloy hole.
Had to remove the bolt & ball from the rod (easy to do) to carefully screw it in in-line.  With it on the rod, it was cross-threading all the time.
All of which added to the time I took!

Did a club ride through the twisties of the Adelaide Hills.  Bike was fine with lowering links on.  I won't need to reverse the mod.

I've replaced the sidestand with the low version.  Not enough lean, and I reckon it would be hard to swing the old sidestand around with the missus on the back.
A bit less meat on the low version, so the pivot pin is a bit longer than it needs to be.  (Sidestand didn't come with a replacement pin.)
I stuck a bit of spring in the gap.  (Split washer in the end of the pin holds it on.)
Had to partly remove the lower engine bar to get the pin out.  -No big deal.

I would say to anyone feeling their Tiger is too tall for them, to fit the lowering links.  Much cheaper than a new bike.

My TSAS error light comes on for most rides now.  No idea why.  I just ignore it.
Nearly always comes on if I turn on ignition without sitting on the bike.  Also comes on after riding for a bit, maybe on hitting a bump.
Perhaps the link rod need adjusting.  -It is on its shortest setting, About 10mm less than before, as recommended by Lust..

If I remember correctly, the rod should be about 6 MM shorter?
To adjust, you have only to unscrew the top bolt, pull the rod out of the lever, loosen the holding nut and turn the balljoint counterclockwise.
Each turn is about 1 MM, sounds little but the effect is huge.
What you can do is give the balljoint 2 turns out (make the rod longer) and connect it again to the lever.
Take a 10 MM wrench with you and go for a ride, experiment if you feel the steering is okayish, if not, just stop, adjust 1 turn and ride.
Continue till you feel its perfect, the steering goes light and no extra effort is needed for cornering.
    Hope this helps  :002:

On the instruction sheet from Lust, it says to shorten the rod by 10mm for the 40mm lowering kit.
I can't make it any shorter as it is wound to its end stops, I can only make it longer.
Might try it a bit longer, but I doubt that will eliminate the TSAS errors.  -I used to get those occasionally before lowering!
