    Cam chain tensioner replacement

    Hi all
I am thinking of replacing the cam chain tensioner in desperate attempt to stop the terrible rattling on start up when the engine is warm. The start up rattle from cold I can accept, this is my 3rd Tiger and they have all rattled from cold just the same. The bike can ridden and warmed up to normal temperature, switched off and left for 10 minutes and then rattles like hell for a few seconds when started again. Can the old cam chain tensioner be replaced by simply removing it and putting the replacement back in ? Or do I need to strip the bike down to remove the cam cover and lock the cams etc.
    Many thanks
    Bob

You don't say what year it is, but my 2014 you could just pull it out and replace it. You just have to make sure it's pushed in and locked first. Once the engine is turned it will unlock itself.

How many miles do you have on your 2018.  I am new to the tigers, and my 1200XRT has 12k on it.  I am hearing something as I going down the road, and this almost make me think perhaps thats it.

With only 12k miles it's unlikely. It's barely even run in at such a low mileage

I have 100kkm on my XRt, and I don't hear excessive cam-chain noise.

I had a rattle on start up normally when the oil is hot and the bike is on the side stand having said that I am in the process of checking the shims and the valve timing is out which I am doing first so might have been the issue. The bike has 30K miles and I put it into the dealers for its 20K mile service and all was good shims etc according to them.

The rattle seems to be a fairly common issue with the motor as I had a Trophy SE prior to the Tiger and on the forums there were a few members complaining about the start up rattle.

I would like to ask another question in rattling subject.
Would it be possible rattling comes from the starter?
I've been trying to identify it by putting my ear around engine I'm hearing it like coming from the front side where starter seats.
Already done the alternator fix for bearing excessive wear and loose bearing seat.
That helped, but just a bit.
