First prang
on: February 12, 2013, 11:17:36 PM

Riding in to work in London last week I was filtering passed some stationary cars when a white Renault decided to turn right into my path without indicating, looking or checking his mirrors. I was doing around 25 mph at the time and hit the driver door and front wing with the front left side of the bike. Miraculously or due to the ABS not sure which, I stayed on the bike and kept it upright but ended up turning right into the road the car was trying to turn into. I was OK if a bit shaken but the car was a mess with its wing mirror torn off and a strip ripped open on the front wing by the  the fog light cowl. The bike was dirty from riding in the rain and snow so at first not all the damage was visible.. Once washed however the damage to my poor Tex was more apparent with virtually every part of the front and side cracked or scuffed. So I took it to my local Triumph  dealer for an estimate they quoted £2,004 just for the parts with labour on top, ouch!!! Fortunately the car driver admitted liability and his insurance has offered to pay for the repairs so hopefully my TEX will be back to normal soon. For the moment I am riding with one side looking great and the other battered with one fog light facing the ground. The engine bars did their job keeping the casings safe but the irony is I have set of Motech Rad bars in their box still  that I have not got around to fitting and had I had them on the bike the damage would have been minimal. They are going straight as soon as the bike is repaired!

Pleased to hear that you are okay anyhow. You were lucky.

Hopefully you'll be back on the road very soon.

Almost a replay of my incident except I was doing only 10mph max.

Sorry to hear the bike came off with damage but glad you are okay. Glad to hear the driver accepted responsibility too.

Sadly I ended up getting a ticket because mine happened in a junction and she made the turn whilst in the junction (positioned to the wrong side of the lane and without a turn signal). Oh well!
