I fill mine to the point that it seeps out while on the center stand. Some say that you should level the bike first by putting a piece of wood under the front tire. I don't bother. And I don't measure the amount of gear oil that I put in.

To the guy who opened his plug and it started oozing out, just drain the drive and refill. Nothing to worry about. It was that full all the miles you’ve been riding it. If you hadn’t opened it, you’d never have known.
