Here is how triumph silently admited the part is bad.

The new version of sixth gear has now 6 teeth in contact with second instead of 3!

EXACTLY what I found when I had the same issue and tore apart my gearbox at 38000 miles! The new gear design means Triumph is WELL AWARE of this issue. We should all be getting reimbursed for repairs by Triumph.
Additionally, the shaft for the shift forks on mine was bent. Was yours?

But that is just not what manufacturers do, any of them. A huge proportion of owners put low mileage on their bikes and may never come across this issue. Triumph won't rack up large costs offering to retro-fit all bikes out there since 2012 because of this issue. The new parts are just an "improved design" as far as they are concerned.

No wasnt. This are 2 different topics

Fork = shift is straight from 3rd to neutral
Gear: throws from 2nd to neutral under engine breaking (during drive)

Changed the gear shaft for the newer part this morning. Bike is 14 reg XC with 11k miles but look at the wear on this!

Thanks to this thread I was able to identify the problem and ti be honest it was an easy fix.

Thanks again :001:

That's some serious wear for 11k miles. Glad that you got it done.   :001:

Is this "newer part" already mounted in the Gen3?

i believe so, looking at the parts diagram on Fowlers there seems to have been a few mods to this unknown (yeah right) issue for gen 1 and 2's.

I would like to think its been sorted now on the gen 3. :112:

Pretty similar than my bike. Almost the same wear and my bike was 17km when it started acting out.

Good job mate!

So the Gen3 doesn't have the 3rd to neutral gearbox problem anymore?
