Title: Rest in Peace Great One!

I KNOW that I am supposed to be too old to have heroes, but ...  I do.

I think he was the greatest RACER ever.  If he hadn't fallen out with Ferrari and moved to Honda, he probably would have won more Driving Championships

And it is my humble guess that no one else will ever win both the Moto and Driving World Championship. That's just not how things are done anymore.

I'm very sad tonight.

Dick

:460: I will never understand why he wasn't knighted. What a man.

I used to have a picture of him on my bedroom wall in the 60's, riding his MV at the Isle of Man.

Last year he made a sizeable donation through his charitable foundation, to my blood running group, to help us get our headquarters garage/building.

If anyone deserved a knighthood it was him.

RIP, John.

He certainly deserved a knighthood far more than some 'here-today-gone-tomorrow' sports celebrities. Maybe he was offered a knighthood but as a modest self-effacing gentleman turned it down? As the honours system selection process is secret we will probably never know.

A wonderful sentiment and I am totally in agreement.

Same for the Knighthood; maybe now we may find out if he was offered it because he damn well should have been.

I can't comment on the knighthood because I don't know anything about the requirements or approval process.  But I agree that when you consider the motorsport participants who have been knighted, his not having one does seem peculiar.  But he also had some controversial (in their day) sponsors for his F1 team.  An unintended consequence?

Owl - would that be this picture?

Hmmmm ...  maybe its time for me to get a new avatar?

You know, I do believe it is!

Long time ago now, but I recognise it.

Knighthood?
You Brits, do know that the Middle Age is over, right?
(c;

I believe that John will be remembered by many (including the whopping three: me, myself and I ;-) and for a long time.
That is true honor, awarded by true admirers.
