Title: Spain - Armenia
Post by: Lopez on November 13, 2017, 11:05:07 AM
It's been a long time since my last visit to the forum...

My almost 3 year old Explorer is now 70000km old and have been in 2 different continents (Europe & Asia), as last august we had a great trip, crossing Europe to Armenia.

This was the path:

I was riding alone and it has been one of the best experiencies in my life, as the trip was about 11.000km long. Explorer perfomance has been INCREDIBLE. There was only three problems:

- Front wheel puncture
- Little oil leaking from cardan (due to over-filling)
- Front lights glass is marked with strange lines, like melting

Not a single problem, even when over 50% of the trip was almost off-road.

Sorry not to make a proper post, but it will take too much time to translate it.

My next years trip will be to Africa:

So, my Explorer is gonna be in three different continents  :001:

Wow, that looks like a great trip. How long did you spend doing it?

Three weeks. I had to take three ferries, from Barcelona to Italy, Italy to Greece and, finally, Italy to Barcelona, when coming back. My longer day trip was 1300km long (810 miles).

The worst day was, probably, when crossing Istambul. Terrible traffic, horrible drivers, under heavy rain, about a handspan of running water on road... More than 4 hours for about 50km (30 miles). The worst border crossing was from Turkey to Georgia, as I was hitted by a car while I was waiting in the police line... And, after that, I almost have a fight with an Iranian driver, because he came to me and, without saying  a word, rev up my bike... I decide to make the same into his Range Rover (really nice sound from the V8 at top of rpm, hahahaha).

Armenia is a awesome country. Not so poor as I expected... And, at Yerevan, capital city, I was impressed by the prices (20€ a meal) and the life-level... Lots of money from russian mafias, as they said to me.

The best of Armenia, with no doubt, are the incredible landscapes and never ending valleys, where you can find nomads. A pleasure to get lost there with the motorbike...

And, from a "human" point of view, the worst day (probably one of the worst days of my life), was in Armenia, when I found a sirian refugee camp. I was crying for one hour. I can describe the misery of that poor people. Even now tears come to my eyes. Worst of human race... Terrible, horrible...

In the other side, I was impressed by Turkey people. I had an idea of muslim, I can say I was racist, that has been absolutly changed. The gentle people, always trying to help me, the way they treat me, the respect... Even policemen where absolutly helpful with me. I don't know about more radicals countries, but the muslim I've found were incredible.

And, when coming back, I really liked Budapest. I think it's the most beautiful city of Europe, even more than Paris. A real surprise to me.
