Cruise Control no more!
on:
August 28, 2013, 01:16:41 PM
Just got the Tiger 1200 back from dealer service to replace the head and timing chain. Everything works fine but I just noticed the other day that my cruise control dosn't wok anymore. Not sure yet but the aux outlet might not be getting power either. I can confirm whether or not the aux outlet is working but no idea how to check for cruise control fixes. I don't think the two are related because I cant figure how Triumph would put an Aux socket on the same circuit as the crtuise control. The manual has no particular fuse for cruise control. I'm lost.
I know that the button has to be fully engaged, the bike must be in 4th gear, and you have to be rolling along at 40 mph or more. I've used it for 3250 miles. No matter what I try, it stil does not work. I tried holding the toggle switch down for several seconds, recycling the on-off ignition switch, and everything I can do to get it to work but nothing.....
The green light on the instrument cluster should come on but it doen't. Any idea's as to what the problem might be?????????????????
I don't want to roll it all the way back to the dealer (too far)...

I think you have to ride it back to the dealer; electronics is a dark art.
Enjoy the ride there and back

i dont want to do a dealer trip if avoidable.
I've read that some people have problems disengageing the cruise by use of the front brake lever (different problem). They claim to have taken the switch housing apart and it fixed it.
My problem has nothing to do with turning it off, I cant get it to go on! I would think they would have a better desscription of fuses in the manual and all the circuits each fuse covers, but they do not elaborate.
Keep ideas coming....

When I stripped mine for paint work and then reassembled it, I adjusted the rear brake light switch actuator just a little too short -
It wasnt engaging the rear brake but was putting the rear brake light on intermittently. This stopped the CC working until I backed the switch back another whole turn.
Check both your brake light switches.... other than that its back to the dealer I'm afraid. :-)

I think the trip back to the dealer is unavoidable.
When my bike was in for an annual service I asked them to make sure they downloaded the most up to date tune as people had reported a much smoother cruise control action with the updated one.
It was a good few miles from the dealer before I could test it out and when I did - nothing!!
After returning to the dealer it became apparent that they need to go through an entire setup routine after updating the tune.
I guess yours has had a new tune and they did not know what to do afterwards.
Get them to collect it as it's their mistake.

Mine came back from the dealers with CC not working last time it was in.
The reset sequence worked for me so is worth a try before you make the trip to the dealers.
The conditions are Ignition key on (engine not running) and cruise control switched off:
Activate front brake switch
Rear brake switch
Clutch switch
Twist grip switch (push the throttle in the closed position)
Activate cruise on/off switch
Cruise accelerate switch
Cruise decelerate switch

Thanks guys,
and James, That will require quite a few hands but I will give it a try.
I will report if the reactivation method holds true.
PS: Do you have to have everything closed at the same time as you cycle the ignition key?

If it doesn't work take it back. Mine had to be plugged back in and the full diagnostic run and reset. If they don't complete the full set up and exit early cc won't work. That's what cured mine after it didn't work after a service

Well I'll be dammed......
Thank you very much James.....I followed your instructions. I held all the switches open at the same time while activating the cruise on/off switch. The first time I did it, I pushed the deceleration toggle switch (-) first, and the cruise switch starting blinking.....
...than I relized your instructions were to activate the acceleration toggle first (+) then the deceleration toggle switch (-) in that order.
I held everything in place and the green light went out in 3 seconds.
I have not tried the bike on the road because it just rained here but will try it later. I am convinced that James's sequence was all it took. I know its going to work, I just know it!
THANK YOU for saving me the hassel of taking to the dealer. EVERYONE should know this if they take their bike in for service and it gets re-flashed.
